SIM: What The Hell Do I Do Now? - Reframing To Resolve Conflict As An IT Leader (Sept. 27th)
Wednesday, September 27th, 2023: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

NSU, Davie
Leveraging the Reframing Process to Resolve Conflict as an IT Leader
As IT Leaders, we can all remember when we went from a mostly hands-on technical position to a management position. It was an exciting time, until you ran up against the first workplace conflict that you were expected to resolve. It could have been between your team members, or a conflict you had with a peer. It might have been a conflict with your boss or another executive in your organization. Did you feel like you had the resources to appropriately handle the conflict?
In his book, 'Addressing Systemic Discrimination by Reframing the Problem', Dr. Frank Douglas presents the Reframing Process which arose from Dr. Douglas' need to deal with discrimination. However, the application of the Reframing Process goes beyond addressing discrimination and can be used to holistically address conflict.
The Reframing Process asks that we look beyond the specific conflict to really hear the grievance, to understand the environment and culture surrounding the conflict, determine if the organization has the capacity to resolve the conflict and agree on a realistic outcome. The Reframing Process accepts that sometimes the realistic outcome is walking away and how best to do that.
Please join us for an interactive workshop learning the Reframing Process from Dr. Douglas and having the opportunity to practice the process with real-life case studies submitted by your peers.
Agenda
- 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM: Breakfast and Networking
- 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Case Study Driven Workshop
- 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Q&A and Wrap Up

Friday, October 20th, 2023: 8:30 AM to 12 PM

NSU
In our quest to understand data we'll often come across insights that enlighten, information that entertains, and decision points that call us to action. As we seek to discover and tell these stories we may be driven by curiosity or creativity. But one motivation should never be overlooked: empathy. If we are to tell data stories that truly matter, then we must understand the data and the real people and situations represented and impacted by the data.
Specifically, you will:
- see how to combine good data visualization techniques with an empathetic understanding of your audience
- consider how to move from abstract concepts to data visualizations that represent reality
- learn ways to probe beyond the initial requirements to better understand true needs and desires
- explore ways to comm

Demystifying Mainframe Modernization As A Blocker To Digital Transformation (Sept. 11th)
Monday, September 11th, 2023: 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Virtual
When it comes to digital transformation journeys, one critical element often gets left behind: Mainframes. Enterprises often try to ignore mainframes or only focus on small portions of their utility because of the apparent complexity of mainframe-based monolithic legacy applications and data. But contrary to those beliefs, it doesn't have to be complicated and mystifying! Enterprises who don't extend modernization to their mainframes are leaving money and agility on the table. Many organizations who have modernized their mainframe applications and data via the cloud are reaping the benefits of cost reduction, significantly enhanced agility and the ability to embrace emerging technologies such as AI, ML, big data and more.

TechStrong: Strategies For Successful Legacy Transformation (Sept. 14th)
Thursday, September 14th, 2023: 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Virtual
As companies progress in their digital transformation efforts, many struggle to transform legacy applications. Security, scarcity of mainframe expertise, fear of disruption, cost overruns and lengthy migration timeframes are just some of the perceived risks they face in migrating these applications and systems to modern, cloud-based platforms. Yet the benefits of transformation are undeniable: Faster innovation and increasing reliability, availability and security-all at a lower cost. Moving legacy workloads to AWS can also serve as the foundation for transformation.
AWS cloud provides new operational models and tools that yield greater business agility. Organizations can free up teamsfrom undifferentiated tasks and refocus them to better serve customer needs. Additionally, moving away from legacy proprietary mainframes allows access to a large pool of talented architects and specialists for design and operation. This resolves the mainframe retirement skills gap and attracts new talent to modernize core business workloads. But successful migrations take planning and expertise, as well as an understanding of the challenges you're likely to face as part of the process.

Why Distributed Edge Data is the Future of AI (Oct. 3rd)
Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

It could be argued that whoever wins the data race will win the AI race, which is inherently built on two premises: 1) Data is available in a central location for AI to have full access to it, 2) Compute is centralized and abundant.
Edge AI though, defies these assumptions. If centralized (or in the cloud) AI is a superpower and super expert, edge AI is a community of many smart wizards. As humans, we can appreciate the power of cumulative knowledge over a central superpower. In this webinar, we will touch on:
- The value and use cases of distributed edge AI
- How data fabric on the edge differs from the cloud and its impact on AI
- Edge device data privacy trade-offs and distributed agency trends
- Privacy mechanisms for federated learning, inference, and analytics
- How interoperability between cloud and edge AI can happen

While they've risen to the challenge, the constant juggling begs the question: Are we providing developers with the right tools, training, resources and support they need to increase productivity, avoid burnout and boost job satisfaction?
Instead of shifting left or right, let's pull developers to the center where development, security and operations teams alike can join forces, distribute the workload and restore balance.
