Conversational Geek: Practical Microsoft 365 Tenant Migrations: What You Can and Can't Do With Native Tools (Aug. 10th)
Wednesday, August 10th, 2022: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM EDT
Many organizations like yours that are in the midst of planning or even starting a Microsoft 365 tenant migration are trying to figure out what you can do with native tools from Microsoft and, if there are limitations, how will that impact your migration.

And for those of you performing hybrid environment-to-hybrid environment migrations, the need to know exactly what's possible is even more important. While tenant migrations seem to be little more than moving data from one Microsoft 365 instance to another, there are a lot of moving parts, planning, testing, and contingencies - all that are based on what you can achieve with the toolsets you have on hand.

So, what can you expect form Microsoft's native tools and where do they lack granularity or functionality that may impact the outcome of your Microsoft 365 migration?

Cloud Detection and Response (CDR) is a new category of solutions that solves these limitations.

Discussion Topics

  • What is Cloud Detection & Response and how does it work?
  • EDR, XDR and NDR solutions already exist. Why do we need CDR?
  • Hear examples of cloud attacks that CDR can intercep
  • Five essential CDR capabilities for effective cloud monitoring & response
  • The pros and cons of agentless vs. agent-based CDR solutions

Tuesday, August 30th, 2022: 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM EDT
Climate change is already showing its impact across the globe, with extreme weather patterns and rising waters posing risks to people, animals, and all other life forms. And these dangers are only increasing in pace and scope. By 2026, climate-related weather events are expected to cost businesses 1.3 trillion dollars.

When it comes to the technology industry, is there anything we can do to lower the carbon footprint and reach net-zero? That's why the Sustainable EnterpriseTechnology Council was formed. What is the Sustainable Enterprise Technology Council?

Founded by BWG Connect and World Wide Technology, the Sustainable Enterprise Technology Council (SETC) is an organization on a mission to promote sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint of the enterprise technology industry.

The SETC aims to be a collaborative organization, bringing in various voices from companies big and small, creating a community to participate in building initiatives. The SETC preliminary topics include more efficient computing, data center design and retrofitting, site selection, efficient cooling, managing carbon credits, and renewable energy. According to Founding Partners Greg Irwin and Brendan Walsh, they want issues to be driven primarily by the community.

Wednesday, August 17th, 2022: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM EDT
The headline-making attack against Solarwinds sent a shockwave through the world and had many security and business leaders reexamining the security of their own supply chains. In a supply chain - or third party - attack, criminals infiltrate and disrupt the computer systems of a company's key suppliers or vendors and, through this third-party access, are then able to breach other organizations associated with the initial target.

Attend this webinar and you'll learn about:

  • Assessing an organization's current software supply chain risk.
  • How Software Bills of Materials (SBOMs) fit into the future of supply chain security.
  • A few crucial best practices for preventing software supply chain attacks.
  • Accounting for flaws lurking in open-source repositories.

DARKReading: Ransomware Resilience and Response: The Next Generation (Aug. 18th)
Thursday, August 18th, 2022: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM EDT
When ransomware locks up your business's critical data and essential gear, there is no time to figure out what to do. There is only time to act - without panicking. That's why a good ransomware response playbook is essential: Do you know if this is a worm that is going to spread to other endpoints or is the attack contained. Do we have backups and how long will it take to get up and running? Should we pay the ransom - and do we even have the cryptocurrency on hand to pay with? Do we know what to do to ensure business continuity?

Code reading session
Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022: 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM EDT
Virtual

There is a lot to be said about how to become a software developer, what languages to use, to get a degree in CS/SE, sign up for a boot camp or self-study via a MOOC course. One thing is similar in all those situations: a strong focus on creating code, very often 'green-field' code. This leads to the fact that developers are rarely well equipped to read code, even their own code, but especially code written by others. Code reading sessions are an initiative by PyLadies South Florida inspired by the Code Reading Club (https://codereading.club). We meet every other month to read, analyze, and discuss code written by others.

SFTH: Agile Best Practices in a Hybrid World
Tuesday, August 16th, 2022: 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM EDT
Virtual

The Agile Methodology has continued to change over the past three decades since it's initial inception. Created out of necessity due a lack of a better practice, digital transformation within companies, and the overall need to shorten the overall software development life cycle.

BUT. . .

Most agile best practices implemented within larger corporations were to shorten the time to release a new update, often 2 week sprints, but continuous delivery requires even more radical change. Most of the changes towards digital transformation and agile implementation were also in a standard in-office setting.

BUT. . .

The pandemic hit. It forced us to become more agile and innovative thinkers to get the job done in a non-typical work setting away from our colleagues, without the ability to just walk over and talk to a developer, without in person team meetings and often expecting shorter release times once again.

TDWI: Optimize Large-Scale Reporting and Complex Analytics with Cloud Data Warehousing
Tuesday, August 16th, 2022: 12:00 AM to 1:00 AM EDT

With data demands rising, organizations in insurance, financial services, and other industries are outgrowing legacy data warehouses and moving to the cloud. Better price for performance is a huge draw. Yet many firms are finding that a single cloud platform is not enough to handle hundreds of concurrent reports or users and can be risky as a single point of failure. Not to mention handling analytics that require interactive access to data sets now measuring hundreds of terabytes and petabytes. Organizations are finding that they need distributed cloud solutions that offer higher scale and performance.
