What is Intelligent Infrastructure? (Aug12th Webinar)
Wednesday, August 12th, 2020: 6 AM PDT and 10 AM PDT
online

  • Wednesday, August 12, 2020, 6AM PDT / 2PM BST
  • Wednesday, August 12, 2020, 10AM PDT / 1PM EDT

Virtualization dramatically advanced data center architectures at the turn of the century. Cloud did the same in the teens. Intelligent Infrastructure is the trend to watch in the 20s, but what is it?

Like the trends before it, Intelligent Infrastructure is a category, a technology with differentiated capabilities, and an architecture for new business agility in IT. Expert human capital remains scarce while demands on infrastructure accelerate, so speeds and feeds alone are no longer a viable solution. What is needed is a dramatic advancement in native machine learning and automation so that the infrastructure itself can help overcome this resource gap. Imagine what new value IT experts could deliver if up to 95% of their administrative tasks were eliminated.

In this webcast, experts from different perspectives share their definitions and experiences. More than merely discussing what it is, this webcast will include examples of how Intelligent Infrastructure can be used today, what it does differently than standard infrastructure, and why it warrants consideration through real-world examples. This webcast features Gartner VP of Research Phil Dawson, Tintri Field CTO Erwin Daria, and Engineering Manager Todd Maugh of Boingo Wireless.

Panelists

  • Phil Dawson, VP of Research, Gartner
  • Erwin Daria, Field CTO, Tintri
  • Todd Maugh, Engineering Manager, Boingo Wireless

Hosted by Tintri and Gartner

Five Characteristics Needed To Be A Great Leader
Tuesday, August 18th, 2020: 7:00 PM to 8:30 AM
online

'Leader' is not a job title but can be someone at any level. A leader is a coach that helps a person or group to develop. Today's business environment is collaborative and resembles more of a sports team mindset. Athletes are trained with a 'team-first' attitude. Leaders need to be mentors and develop their team or peers. Business Analysts can have more influence on the company direction than upper management. It is critical that a Senior Business Analyst be a leader and mentor.

Learning Objectives:

  • Why BA's are expected to be leaders and mentors.
  • How to become better BAs by leveraging leadership skills.
  • Why BA's are better accepted by other team members.

Accurate de-identification, obfuscation and editing of scanned medical documents
Wednesday, August 19th, 2020: 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM

One kind of noisy data that healthcare data scientists deal with is scanned documents and images: from PDF attachments of lab results, referrals, or genetic testing to DICOM files with medical imaging. These files are challenging to de-identify, because personal health information (PHI) can appear anywhere in free text - so cannot be removed with rules or regular expressions - or 'burned' into images so that it's not even available as digital text to begin with.

CNNs (Convolutional Neural Networks) have revolutionized the way we build visual processing systems and are a major component of the deep learning toolkit available to machine learning practitioners. CNNs are commonly used in visual processing but also have applications in other fields like Natural Language Processing. In this talk, Jacob will introduce CNNs and give a detailed overview of how they work and some of the motivations behind why there were invented. We will then get our hands dirty and build a CNN model from scratch using PyTorch and train it to recognize different objects from a common visual dataset. We will then use a transfer learning technique to improve the accuracy of our model.
