Turing Lectures: The Future Of Generative AI
FutureCIO, Wednesday, December 27,2023
There continues to be a lot of interest in artificial intelligence (AI) - going beyond what we see in movies or films. But while it is suggested that AI has been around since the 1950s, it has only been in the recent few years that AI has gone beyond the realm of science fiction and large research institutions with deep pockets.
Today, AI is available to consumers who want to dabble on the technology. Much like another phenomenon that came before it - bring your own device (BYOD) - we are on the cusp of adopting technology before we fully understand what it is and what it isn't.
As Lecturer for the 2023 CHRISTMAS LECTURES from the Royal Institution, Professor Mike Wooldridge walks us through AI, its long journey so far, and what it can and can't do - as yet.
A professor of computer science at the University of Oxford, Wooldridge is also a director for AI at The Alan Turing Institute in London and has authored nine books, including two popular science introductions to AI: the Ladybird Expert Guide to AI (Penguin, 2018) and The Road to Conscious Machines (Pelican, 2020).
