AI Cybersecurity Arms Race: Are Companies Ready?
Digital CxO, Thursday, October 2nd, 2025
Every few years, a new catchphrase dominates the cybersecurity industry. We've lived through 'zero-trust,' 'extended detection and response' and 'threat intelligence.' Some concepts stick and shape the way we defend ourselves; others fade into the background noise.
But make no mistake: AI is not a buzzword. It's the battlefield.
A recent survey revealed that most enterprises don't believe their current security postures can stop AI-powered cybercrime. And frankly, that tracks with what we're already seeing. Over the past year, deepfake scams have tricked finance officers into wiring millions of dollars, polymorphic malware has outpaced signature-based detection by rewriting itself in real time, and large language models have been exploited to generate insecure code or even malicious payloads.
We are living in the middle of an AI-driven cybersecurity arms race. The uncomfortable truth is that, for the moment, the attackers are setting the pace.
