TDWI Research: AI Impact Starts With Data Foundations
Virtualization Review, Tuesday, June 16th, 2026
Strong data foundations, not just AI models, separate high-impact organizations from those stuck in pilots.
TDWI's 2026 Blueprint report finds that successful AI deployment depends fundamentally on robust data foundations rather than model selection alone.
Organizations reporting significant AI impact show stronger architectural, governance, and operational capabilities than lower-performing peers. The research notes 95% of high-impact firms consider data foundations required or important, versus only 18% of moderate-impact organizations.
Key shifts include growing reliance on unstructured data alongside structured data, with document processing and intelligent extraction leading AI use cases at 59%. High-impact organizations more often implement unified platforms, semantic models, knowledge graphs, and embedded governance.
